Meet Rick - The Full Human Being

People experience Rick as curious, humble, and generous. It’s easy to relax in his presence, as he’s someone that is genuinely interested to know you for who you are. His long-time barber introduces him as “the most accepting man on the planet”. Rick’s passion is unleashing human potential. It’s what has animated his leadership throughout his corporate career. And he believes it represents the greatest opportunity humanity has to answer its most pressing issues like climate change, war, racism, injustice, and more. Rick has been drawn to A Human Workplace because he sees this movement as one taking true ownership of the change necessary to unleash human potential. He adds that this is not an onerous or intimidating process, but rather a joyful expression of giving and receiving love in the most applied ways. He would be thrilled for you to join him in this endeavor and extends his invitation to you personally. Learn more about Rick at his LinkedIn page here.

Reweaving the Fabric of Community

Rick is an executive change agent, an architect of culture, a leadership coach, and workshop facilitator. He brings to A Human Workplace 40 years of experience tending to client relationships. His work is marked by constantly seeking to answer the question, “How can I be most helpful now?” Cookie-cutter simply isn’t his style. Instead, he loves discovering the rich history, unique needs, and dynamic variables hidden below the surface of everyone and every organization he serves. He is dedicated to inventing creative solutions that honor and appreciate clients for who they are. Rick is adamant that these tapestries of our society, organizations, and communities are made from beautiful entanglements in which the relative weakness of a single thread is made so much stronger when weaved together in the greater context of community. Our collective strength comes from our bonds with one another and the meaning we make together. Rick’s passion is to help us all reweave the fabric of community to reveal greater effectiveness, richer value, and deeper love. He loves to say, “Take everything you think you have to do by yourself and find a way to do it with others”. Rick’s Story

Rick moved all around the continental United States as a young person and finally settled in the Pacific Northwest where he has lived for the past 50 years. His parents were major influences in his life and he feels very blessed to draw on both their strengths like openness, generosity and a vast capacity for love. Excelling at school came easily for Rick, but he was much more a student of life and experience than text or lecture. He found himself drawn to leaders and wanted to learn from those who had influence outside of a classroom setting. Rick took this passion to the professional world, working in organizations led by some of the most dynamic business leaders of our time. Throughout his time at these world-renowned institutions, he became known for his own ability to lead teams where people were unleashed to be themselves and where they felt safe, cared for, and able to perform. Rick sees it as his responsibility to amplify voices other than his own. In his own words, “My focus is always to use my presence and privilege to ensure that other people in the room are heard”. Everything Else You Wish You Knew About Rick

Rick self-defines as a person who falls in love easily. He says his work is to fall in love with the person in front of him for all of their intricacies and make space for them exactly as they are. He delights in helping that person see themselves with the same light that he sees them. Every morning he can be found having tea-time with his sweetheart, Rebecca, which he describes as the place and time that keeps him grounded. She is his greatest influence and daily teaches him about self-awareness, self-examination, asking hard questions, and what it looks like to truly hold a growth mindset. Since the birth of his six grandchildren, he has been seeing the world through “grandfather eyes”, which sparkle with delight and curiosity – deeply present in the moment. He brings these ‘grandfather eyes’ to his work by channeling the peace that comes with observing each moment as if it were an unpolished gem. Not something to rush through or toss aside, but truly something to hold with wonder and tend with intentionality. His life’s journey has taught him, “I don’t need to be special; I can just be me,” and he shares that with you hoping you can enjoy that same inner harmony today and every day.

What Rick’s Clients Say About Rick

“The level of loyalty Rick gives to his co-workers and leadership is frankly uncommon. He works to give everything he can to you. Rick is deeply passionate (and effective) about helping others find their own voice, as well as their own path to fulfillment. A journey we should all hope to take, but very often need someone’s skilled help to find our way.

Rick is that person.

Rick is the type of person you can have total vulnerability with, and he will give you the same. I don’t know that you could ask for any more from a colleague, co-worker, friend, coach, or mentor."
